At 4:07 p.m. Sept. 11, officer 133 issued Citation #000504685 to yours truly.
The citation declares that my violation is "parked in handicapped." If I had not appealed, I would be required to pay a fine of $100, and still may be.
Under normal circumstances, I would not dispute the fact that I needed to pay the fine.

In past years I haven't taken an interest in politics. A bunch of old rich guys that never really seemed to get anything done didn't really interest me. So imagine my surprise when I stopped tuning out political talk and started listening to the day-to-day occurrences in Washington and around the nation.

If you're a biochemistry major, you might gag at the idea of discussing British poetry three times a week. And if you're a creative writing major, you probably won't be demanding an override to get into a differential calculus class.
Let's face it. Part of the beauty of college is being able to break free from the one-size-fits all education of high school.

There are many things I would rather be doing right now than taking an on-line sexual harassment training that belies the actual practice of this university, or writing about it for the Progress. Some of you may know that all faculty and staff are required now to become educated about the nuances of sexual harassment, to report it when found, and to do all in our power to make sure that it is addressed appropriately by those in charge.

For many students, a typical weekday morning consists of fighting through campus traffic and arriving at the parking lot closest to their first class, where they spend 20 minutes driving around in vain, searching for a parking spot.
David DeVoss, director of Public Safety, said parking at Murray State is a lot better than the majority of other universities, with an adequate amount of parking on campus within a close distance.

It starts with a fever. Soon a painful, severe headache ensues, accompanied by a sensitivity to light. Then, a rash that looks like you have been poked by a million needles pops up on the skin before the the nausea and unbearable vomiting hit.
This is an extreme but plausible description of the symptoms and experiences associated with bacterial meningitis, an inflammation of the linings of the brain and spinal cord.

In Thursday's editorial, "Our loss of will," the independent Editorial Board cited a speech by Reynolds Price sixteen Founders' Days ago. The phrasing used to capture the way in which it was delivered, however, was careless and insensitive.
Though the offense was unintentional, the Board neglected to consider how the idiom could be construed.

The Gallup poll will never ask Republican-registered voters, "Would you vote for McCain/Palin if John McCain were African-American?" The Republicans nominated a woman for vice president 24 years after the Democrats already broke that barrier. How many Republicans would vote for an African-American? Since they have not nominated an African-American or ethnic minority for president, we will never know.
