"It's getting close to finals and with splatter paint you get to kind of fling your arms and release your energy," says Katie Sawhill about her latest project, splatter painting in the Student Center.

Sawhill did the same thing last semester, but only with the residents of GB, where she is an RA. She says the event went over well and that's why she decided to do it again this semester. Only this time she decided to get the entire campus involved.

With help from other Residence Life staff and students, Sawhill set up chairs in a large square in the Student Center. She used the chairs as a support to drape plastic over the floor, creating a large square area on which to paint. Inside the square was a table set up with an assortment of paints and brushes. Each person picked out their paint and brushes and a piece of paper, either black or white. The students then threw, brushed and splattered the paint on the paper.

The paintings were then placed on the stage to dry. After washing up, students helped themselves to refreshments.

Sawhill says she feels that splatter painting is something artistic that anyone can do. She says you don't have to have any previous experience to do it, which makes it a good group activity for the campus.

Freshman Phillip Slusser, who didn't get to come last semester, says he enjoyed the activity. He says he had fun and that next time he would wear paint clothes so he could get dirty without worrying.
