Ansley Communications will be the primary contractor for the project. The system that will be installed includes a siren notification, with capability for prerecorded and spoken messages.
Ansley Communications offers an emergency notification system for businesses and schools that deliver up to 10,000 calls in under a minute. It's designed for public safety and is easy to use, according to the company's Web site.
The Emergency Notification System will be used for all emergencies including weather, says Drew Davis, dean of student affairs. The PA system will be located near Camp Hall with one speaker for emergency use.
"The system has a one-year warranty and incurs little or no maintenance expense afterward since nothing much can go wrong once it's operating properly," says Bowen.
Piedmont's security staff will be in charge of operating the system once installed.
Davis says Piedmont has been in talks about the system for a year. However, it took some time to decide on the provider and type of system.
Ansley Communications will install the same system at Piedmont that's on the campus of Oxford College of Emory University and other small colleges.
"I think the system will be very affective at Piedmont," says Davis. "The whole campus will hear it clearly."
