Despite dismal weather conditions over the weekend, over 300 Piedmont alumni came to Demorest to participate in the annual Alumni Weekend.
The four-day weekend began Thursday with an Early Bird Concert featuring the Cantabile singers in Brooks Hall at the Center for Worship and Music.
On Friday, alumni were invited to Commerce, Ga. to participate in a golf tournament at the Double Oaks Golf Club.
Brandy Aycock, who works in the Alumni House, says, "It was misty outside but that didn't stop the tournament. We had a good turnout."
Other events included school-sponsored breakfasts, inductions into the Athletic Hall of Fame, the Alumni Association annual meeting, tours of the Swanson Center and reunion dinners for the classes of '50-59, '65-68 and '83-84.
Saturday morning the "P" Club held a breakfast for all its members. The "P" Club is the Piedmont College letter club, which was established to recognize athletes who played a varsity sport or were part of the cheerleading teams. Membership to the "P" Club is also open to those who wish to support athletics at Piedmont.
Alumni were also invited to attend the Covenant Congregational Church Sunday service, the Piedmont baseball game against Emory University and a Chamber Singers performance.
The only events canceled for the weekend due to inclement weather were the soccer tournament Saturday morning and the Lady Lions softball game Saturday afternoon.
Aycock believes that the alumni were pleased with the progress that Piedmont has made in recent years with its new additions and expansions. Aycock says, "I think everyone enjoyed the weekend with great camaraderie."
