Opinions Battle: Should the United States pursue offshore drilling?
Heck Yes!

With today's high gas and oil prices, it's a wonder the more government officials aren't pushing for offshore drilling. But some are.
According to CNN.com, senator and presidential nominee John McCain opted to lift the ban on offshore drilling in June of this year.
He did this to be less dependant on foreign oil and fight high gas prices.
Although the dollar per barrel ratio plunges, gas prices are slow to react.
I realize this problem isn't happening because of a lack of oil, but because of the war in Iraq.
America is dependant on the Middle East for most of its oil supply. Still, if things continue to be the way they are, why not use offshore drilling to get the oil we need?
I think if we got to the point where we had to do it, offshore drilling would be a solution to the oil problem.
If the government allowed companies to drill, then America could have the oil it so desperately needs and not have to interact with the Middle East.
Most people aren't fans of this idea. People say offshore drilling is unnecessary and destroys nature.
However, if we were no longer dependant on foreign oil and lower gas prices, wouldn't it be worth it? I think it would.
Sometimes for good things to happen, sacrifices need to be made. I'm not saying that the first chance we get, we should start tearing nature apart.
I'm saying that if we get to the point of desperation, having a good economy is worth giving up a little bit of the natural beauty of America.
