In this week's food review, I took a trip back to my past. I recently had The Steak House, in Cornelia, recommended to me by a friend. When I pulled up in the parking lot, I immediately realized that i had been to this restaurant for my birthday a few years back.
As you walk in the door, you are immediately greeted by the standard small town steak house decor; complete with rolls of lifesavers at the register. The rest of the restaurant follows the same decorating pattern with paintings of the local area on the wall.
The server came over with a friendly smile and after some debating- they have a fairly diverse menu for a local steak house- I chose the sirloin sandwich. My friend chose the Buffalo chicken finger Sandwich.
Our food came out in about the time you would expect lunch to take at a steak house, considering I ordered steak.
I had ordered the steak medium-well, but they cooked it well done, which made it a bit tougher with less flavor. My friend's sandwich was tastier than mine, but still nothing to get excited about.
The fries, however, were interesting because they tasted less like what I have come to expect of fries and more like actual potatoes. This departure from normal fry-fare was an unexpected and very tasty experience. Still, overall I would classify the food as mediocre; not bad, but nothing to get over-excited about either.
The service started out good, friendly and attentive. However, once our food came, we hardly saw our waitress again. My friends drink ran dry and we finally had to ask for a refill from another waitress.
This second experience pretty much matched my experience from the first time I ate at the restaurant with one exception. The last time I ate here was at dinner and I believe the food was slightly better during dinner. The dinner menu is more varied, with more options in the seafood and steak areas. It is, however, more pricey at dinner.
I think this restaurant is decent, but I would not go out of my way to recommend it. The prices are reasonable and the food is not bad, but there is nothing truly special, save the fries, about this restaurant.
