Let's Eat: The Porterhouse Grill

This weekend, while in Athens for the Georgia College Press Association Conference, myself and other members of this staff decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner. The restaurant that was recommended to us was The Porterhouse Grill. We were not disappointed.
Upon entering we had to wait for a seat because of the amount of previous reservations made. Our wait, however, was not overly long compared to other sit-down establishments.
The ambience in this restaurant was the first thing to strike me. Usually when I go to Athens, I expect the normal little college town eatery, nothing to fancy. The Porterhouse, though, was a very well decorated and chic place. The lighting was low, but adequate, and the decoration was stylish without being overpowering.
But all of this is nothing compared to the food. The only word for the culinary experience at this restaurant is amazing. What was even more impressive was the fact that there was not a thing on my plate I couldn't find anything I didn't like about it.
Myself and two others had the filet mignon. None of us could quit talking about the sauce. It was a rasberry-bourbon sauce that had all of us in nirvana. The other two at our table had prime rib and they it was delectable. Both cuts had a somewhat crunchy outside. The two who had the prime rib said their steaks had a salty outside, but it was good.
The steaks were amazing, but so were the sides. Each entrée came with whipped potatoes and vegetables, but I substituted my vegetables for rice at no additional cost.
All of this being said, The Porterhouse Grill is on the higher end as far as cost. My meal alone cost $25 after tip. But if you are looking to splurge a little for a nice dinner out, I highly recommend The Porterhouse Grill.
