It is not a new discovery that today's job market is tough. Unemployment rates are at an all time low for the country. Anyone in Athens checking the local papers has been disappointed in the lack of job availability.
However, there is a place you can go in Athens to find an updated list of job openings in the area, plus tips on writing your and interviewing at no cost to you. Goodwill is located at 10 Huntington Road, across from the Georgia Square Mall. Their Career Center is staffed with volunteers and overseen by Alicia Battle, the Career Center Manager, all there to assist with any and all job hunting needs.
They have three notebooks filled with job openings posted through all of the local papers, online and through the Department of Labor. There is a fax machine, computers with printers and copier all free use. The office is surrounded with available literature ranging from dealing with a bad work history to having your taxes done as a senior to what apartments have openings.
The Career Center offers classes to the public on first-time home buying, financial literacy, job networking, computer use and even free language classes. The friendly staff is also available to help you with writing your own resume. All of their services are available free to the public; you do not have to meet any economic requirements for their assistance. The Career Center is able to offer these services free because their funding comes from the donations given to the Goodwill store next door.
If you are in need of any employment tools, or would like a great place to give back through volunteer work go check them out.
