Lady Lions lock up fourth spot in GSAC

Piedmont improved to 12-14 on the season and evened its Great South Athletic Conference record to 6-6.
The Lady Lions have locked up the fourth spot in the conference standings behind Huntingdon and the leaders, Maryville and LaGrange.
Piedmont took game one over Spelman with a 9-0 win.
Drevlow tossed her fifth career complete game shutout while striking out three in the opener.
Piedmont's offense backed Drevlow with seven runs in the first two innings, highlighted by sophomore Raley White's two-run double.
The nightcap of the doubleheader featured an almost identical game as the Lady Lions won 8-0.
The offense tallied five runs in the sixth to support Broderick, who went the distance while allowing only four hits and striking out six.
Junior Laura Puckett led the second game with a two-hit performance and a run scored.
Prior to the doubleheader with Spelman, sophomore Hannah McKay led the Lady Lions with a .372 average.
Junior Michelle Crandall carries a .345 clip with six doubles and 12 RBI.
Freshman Kellie Edmondson leads the team with two homeruns and 17 RBI, while Drevlow is a close second with 16.
Drevlow has a team-high 10 doubles on the season, as well as six wins with a 3.80 ERA.
Piedmont is 7-7 at home and 5-7 on the road.
The women have won seven of their last 12 games after dropping nine of the first 14 contests.
The Lady Lions wrap up their regular season schedule with a doubleheader at Emmanuel College on April 21.
The GSAC tournament is set to begin on April 24-26 in LaGrange, Ga.
Piedmont will likely take on Wesleyan in the opening round.
The Lady Lions have outscored Wesleyan 14-3 in two games this season.
LaGrange looks to win its third consecutive GSAC championship.
