Piedmont College students Sean Maguire and Justin Doro came together and organized a talent show. Prior to the actual organization of the event, Doro and Maguire had to get approval from Resident Director Devin Pass and Resident Life Coordinator Mark Maynard.
The idea of hosting a talent show was decided on the week after Thanksgiving and the event was officially held Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. in the student center.
Maguire hoped to "give everybody a chance to show off what they can do whether it be play an instrument, stand-up comedy, or reading poetry."
Such events as karaoke have been hosted in the past and what Doro and Maguire wanted to do with the talent show was to offer an opportunity for all talents to be expressed.
Going on this same day on campus was a Red Cross blood drive, also in the student center, which some time after 7 p.m. was still being packed up.
The talent show did not boast a large turnout, but the three performers who did come out put on a show nonetheless.
Freshman Julie Wood performed the song 9 Crimes by Damien Rice, Sophomore Jay Canning performed Facedown by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and Junior Scott "Banjo" Pratt performed his own piece entitled Walking by the River.
First place went to Julie Wood. Maguire apologized to those who came out for the "poor planning" and says that he will look to better organize another talent show in the coming month.
