The D-Scoop: an editorial

After attending many games, I must say that this private institution is fortunate to have the 2009-10 men's basketball team representing it both in the Cave and on the road.
These Lions have shown impressive levels of athleticism and team cooperation, and even when they suffer loss, they still compete with an unmatched passion and aggression.
If you don't agree with me, then consider the team's six-game winning streak this season.
Some of these games were won without forward Tracey Gardner, who is a prominent rebounder for the Piedmont team.
Even without Gardner's valued attendance, the Lions still rallied together for wins.
Individual players have also done great things this season.
Seniors J.C. Herebia and Michael Rubio both reached a 1,000-point career scoring record.
Before them, only one other Piedmont player had broken the 1,000-point barrier.
The Piedmont College men's basketball team also has a valuable bench roster. These athletes are incredibly competitive.
Take a look at freshman forward Jim Orr, who has contributed several baskets this season.
On top of that, Orr's dunks never fail to get the crowd standing.
Guards such as Mike Chatman and Samuel Coppage have consistently exemplified leadership by delivering crucial, game-saving connections to the basket.
My opinion on the Piedmont College men's basketball team can be validated by solid statistics.
According to Piedmont Athletics records, the Lions are having the most successful season record in nearly ten years.
Just last season, Piedmont didn't carry any conference wins.
This season, our conference record is 3-1, and there are still games left to play.
Because of our so-far success in the Great South Athletic Conference, the Piedmont Lions basketball team is ranked second in the conference.
Ranked first in the conference is Maryville College, but Piedmont has already shown that it can handle the Scots. Remember the overttime victory just a short-while back?
Piedmont has shown that it will have the ability to be extremely successful in the NCAA D-III tournament beginning on Feb. 26.
If you see a member of the Piedmont College men's basketball team, throw out a big thanks to them for being such a valuable part of the Piedmont College community.
