TIPS AND TRICKS CORNER

The dunk is one of the most exciting shots a basketball player can take in a game.
Nothing gets a crowd going more than a player getting a fast break towards the goal in route to an electrifying dunk.
With the dunk being such a high-percentage shot, you want it in your basketball resume along with the hook shot, which was explained in the last issue.
I will show you the steps you need to learn how to execute an impressive dunk.
First, you will need to increase your jumping height, which is also known as your vertical leap.
In order to do this, you will need to do exercises called plyometrics. These include squats, repeatedly touching a high spot on a wall, and running up and down stairs.
Increasing your vertical leap takes plenty of time, but applying plyometrics to your life will produce results.
Second, get a feel for the ball. If you can palm the ball it will make dunking it that much easier.
Third, practice your rim-rattling, highlight-worthy dunks on an adjustable goal. This allows you to work on your technique.
Slowly increase the height of the goal as you progress.
As always, practice, practice, practice. Even after you are able to dunk on a regulation size rim, it will take you many more months of training before you can apply it consistently in an actual game.
