A Mardi Gras celebration took place on the Piedmont College campus this past week.
There was a continuous showing of short films from around the world and a table full of a variety of finger-foods provided for attendees.
Piedmont students gathered in Stewart Auditorium on Thursday, February 11 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the event.
Those who attended had the freedom to enter the auditorium for film entertainment, eat the food provided, and dive into the spirit of Mardi Gras.
"More than 60 students attended this event. They enjoyed eating food from around the world and watching award winning short films from Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, and Mexico, among others," said Michael Dillon, assistant professor of Spanish at Piedmont College.
Dillon gathered all of the short films that were shown. Each were produced by directors and cinematographers of many different nations.
When the students entered Stewart Hall, the traditional colors of Mardi Gras-purple, green and yellow-flooded the room. Streamers, balloons, beads, masks and all other sorts of decorative items littered the walls, ceiling and floor of the building.
A table set back against a large glass window held a great variety of food from countries all around the world.
Students were free to eat anything they wanted and were also allowed to take some of the beads and festive masks that were lying around.
Some of the food prepared and provided by the language faculty included pastelillo de queso-Mexican cheesecake, German Goulash-meat stew, Cenci-an Italian desert and French cake.
The Mardi Gras event was planned by the modern language faculty of the Department of Humanities, including French, Spanish, German and Japanese.
In response to the event Dillon said, "We hope that this will become a tradition here at Piedmont."
