The Piedmont College men's basketball team fell to host Maryville College 96-62. The game marked the end of the regular season for both the Lions and Scots.
Both teams were in position to win the Great South Athletic Conference regular-season title.
Maryville started off strong by gaining its first and last lead of the game with just four minutes gone off of the clock.
With 11 minutes remaining in the first frame, Maryville led 16-9. The team held the advantage after a 33-10 run before intermission. At halftime, the Scots led 49-19.
Piedmont could not manage to overturn the lead or cut the margin down significantly enough to position itself for a win. A season-high 25 turnovers also blocked the Lions from victory.
Senior Michael Rubio reached double-figures and scored 13 points. Tyler Arnold and J.C. Herebia both scored 12 points.
The win for Maryville College places them as the first seed in this week's Great South Athletic Conference Tournament.
The loss moves Piedmont to a final, regular season record of 15-10 and 3-3 in the GSAC.
The team will compete as the second seed in the GSAC tournament against LaGrange College on Feb. 26. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Agnes Scott College.
